Online Therapy in Sudbury & Northern Ontario
Finding a therapist in Sudbury can mean months on a waitlist — or a long drive down Highway 69 for specialized care. TEO Counselling brings trauma therapy and marriage counselling to Northern Ontario by video: evening and weekend appointments, no commute, no waiting room.
Free 15-minute consultation · No referral needed · Seven days a week

Built for the Northern Ontario reality
Sudbury sits at the centre of a region where the need for mental-health care has long outpaced the clinicians available to provide it. Advanced training — EMDR for trauma, Gottman Method for couples — has traditionally meant a referral list or a drive south. Virtual care closes that distance.
Whether you're in New Sudbury, Val Caron, Chelmsford, or Lively — or further out in Espanola, Timmins, or Sault Ste. Marie — you meet your therapist from home. In January, when Highway 17 is a whiteout, your session still happens.
We also understand shift work. Mining doesn't run nine to five, and neither do we: evening and weekend appointments are the standard here, and session times can rotate with your schedule.
Two Ontario clinicians, one simple way to start
Mohamad Shabib, MACP, CCC
Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying), CRPO
Mohamad works with trauma and PTSD using EMDR (EMDRIA-trained), Internal Family Systems (Levels 1–2), and CBT for Trauma, and with couples using the Gottman Method (Levels 1–2). He also brings hands-on addictions experience. Sessions in English and Arabic.
Rola Shbib, BSW (Hons), RSW
Registered Social Worker, OCSWSSW
Rola is a Registered Social Worker based in London, Ontario, serving clients across the province. Her background spans crisis intervention and suicide prevention, with an honours degree in thanatology — the study of grief, dying, and loss. She offers trauma-informed counselling for grief, addictions, and mental health.

A note for Sudbury's francophone community
Greater Sudbury is one of Canada's most bilingual cities, and many people prefer therapy in French. We'd rather be honest than vague: our sessions are offered in English and Arabic, not French. If either works for you, we'd be glad to help; if you need a francophone clinician, a community health centre can point you to local options.
What does marriage counselling in Sudbury cost?
Marriage counselling for Sudbury couples costs $175 per 60-minute video session, and the first step — a 15-minute consultation — is free. Individual therapy is $150 per 60-minute session, and a small number of reduced-fee spots are held for people for whom cost is the real barrier; asking about one at the consultation is a normal question that changes nothing about how you are treated.
Couples therapy for Sudbury also works around real schedules. Sessions run into the evening, and each partner can join the video call from a different place — one at home in New Sudbury, one still away on rotation. Mohamad, trained in Gottman Method Levels 1 and 2, works on the conflict cycle itself — how an argument starts, escalates, and repairs — rather than refereeing who was right.
OHIP does not cover private counselling or psychotherapy, so sessions are paid privately. You receive an insurance-ready receipt after every session showing the clinician's name and registration. Many extended health plans cover a Registered Psychotherapist, a Canadian Certified Counsellor, or a Registered Social Worker — read your plan's wording before you book, because the wording is what decides it.
Cancellations need 24 hours' notice. With notice, you simply reschedule at no charge; inside the window, or for a session nobody attends, the full fee applies.
Registered in Ontario — and what stays private
Ontario regulates psychotherapy through the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, and both clinicians who see Sudbury clients are registered with Ontario regulators — Mohamad Shabib as a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with the CRPO, and Rola Shbib as a Registered Social Worker with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. Both registrations can be checked on their college's public register, and because every appointment happens over video, the care is the same whether you're in the city or an hour past Espanola.
Sessions run seven days a week from noon to 9pm Pacific — in Sudbury, that is 3pm to midnight Eastern. An evening start after a day shift underground, or an afternoon session before nights begin, is an ordinary booking here rather than a favour someone squeezes in.
What you say in session is confidential, and the limits are stated plainly before you share anything: a serious risk that you will harm yourself, a serious risk that you will harm another person, a suspicion that a child is being abused or neglected, or a subpoena or court order for the records. In a smaller city, where the person behind you at the grocery store might know your foreman, it can also simply help that there is no waiting room for anyone to see you in at all.
Common questions from Sudbury & Northern Ontario
How do I find a therapist in Sudbury without a months-long waitlist?
Northern Ontario has far fewer clinicians per resident than the south of the province, and waits for care can be long. TEO Counselling is virtual: book directly online — no referral needed — and a free consultation can be booked directly online.
Do you offer marriage counselling for Sudbury couples?
Yes. Mohamad Shabib is trained in Gottman Method Levels 1 and 2 and works with couples across Ontario by video. Evening and weekend sessions make it realistic for both partners to attend, even around rotating shifts.
Is online therapy as effective as meeting in person?
For most concerns, yes — research consistently finds video-delivered therapy produces outcomes comparable to in-person care, including trauma treatment and couples work. Sessions run on the Jane platform, with Zoom or Google Meet as a backup.
How much does therapy cost, and will my insurance cover it?
Individual sessions are $150 per 60-minute session, couples sessions $175; a small number of reduced-fee spots are held — if cost is a barrier, mention it during the consultation. You receive a receipt after every session; many plans cover Registered Psychotherapists, Canadian Certified Counsellors, or Registered Social Workers — check what your plan lists before booking.
Are sessions available in French?
Not at this time — sessions are offered in English and Arabic. If either language works for you, we would be glad to work with you.
What hours work for mining and shift schedules?
Appointments run seven days a week from 3pm to midnight Eastern time — noon to 9pm Pacific. A session at 9pm or 10pm after a day shift is an ordinary booking here, and if you rotate between day and night shifts, your session time can move with your schedule week to week.
