A counsellor in Saskatoon shouldn’t require a drive across the bridge

TEO Counselling offers counselling delivered entirely by video across Saskatchewan, so your postal code does not decide who you can work with — trauma, grief, addictions, and couples work, from a practice built to be virtual rather than adapted to it.

That matters most in winter. When it’s −30 with the wind chill and traffic is crawling over the University Bridge, a downtown appointment is usually the first commitment to get dropped. Online sessions remove the drive completely — whether you’re in Stonebridge, Evergreen, Nutana, or Lawson Heights, or out in Warman or Martensville, your session starts the moment you open the link.

We work with adults and couples throughout the province — see our Saskatchewan online therapy page for the full picture — and every session comes with a receipt for your extended health plan.

Rola Shbib, BSW (Hons)

Ontario Registered Social Worker (RSW, OCSWSSW), based in London, Ontario. Rola comes to counselling from the front lines — crisis response, suicide prevention, and community mental health and addiction services — and holds an honours degree in thanatology, the study of grief, dying and bereavement.

Counselling is not a regulated profession in Saskatchewan, so you can book directly with no referral. Reach out and we will match you with whichever of us fits what you need.

Couples counselling in Saskatoon — online, Gottman-informed

Getting two working adults into the same office at the same hour is often the hardest part of couples counselling. Saskatoon couples juggling shift rotations, kids’ hockey, and opposite ends of the city can skip that fight entirely: with video sessions in the evening or on a weekend, neither partner leaves work early, and you can join from the same living room or from two different cities.

Mohamad works with couples using the Gottman Method (Levels 1–2) — a structured, research-based approach to breaking conflict cycles, repairing trust, and rebuilding friendship and intimacy. Couples sessions are $175 per 60-minute session, and the first step is the same free consultation. Read more about our approach to relationship counselling.

What the sessions look like: the first few are an assessment of how the two of you argue, repair and reconnect, and what each of you is asking for underneath the argument that keeps coming back. After that the work is specific — the soft start-up to a hard conversation, noticing a partner’s attempt at repair instead of driving past it, and the four responses the method treats as corrosive: criticism, contempt, defensiveness and stonewalling. Nobody is assigned blame, and the aim is not to decide who was right.

Mohamad has completed the Gottman Method at Levels 1 and 2; the Gottman Institute’s separate therapist credential is not claimed here. You do not need to be married, or in crisis, to book — some couples come before a wedding rather than after a rupture, and one partner can take the consultation call alone if the other is not yet sure.

What does marriage counselling in Saskatoon cost?

Marriage counselling in Saskatoon through TEO Counselling costs $175 CAD per 60-minute couples session, delivered by video, and it starts with a free 15-minute consultation so you can ask questions before booking anything.

There is no fixed package and no required number of sessions. The early sessions with Mohamad map how the two of you argue, repair, and reconnect; after that, you set the pace together — closer together while things are raw, further apart once the tools are holding. Reduced-fee spots exist for couples too, and you receive a receipt after every session. One caution worth knowing up front: some benefits plans reimburse individual counselling but word couples coverage differently, so read your plan or send your insurer a sample receipt before you count on reimbursement.

If one of you travels for work — common enough across Saskatchewan’s mining, agriculture, and health sectors — you can each join the session from wherever you are. Two screens, two towns, one conversation.

How does online therapy from Saskatoon work?

Online therapy at TEO Counselling runs through Jane, a Canadian practice platform: you book a time, receive an email with a video link, and click it when your appointment starts — nothing to install, with Zoom or Google Meet as a backup if the connection misbehaves.

Your first full session is mostly conversation: what brought you here, what has and hasn’t helped before, and what you want to be different. From there the work looks much like it would in any therapy room — except you are in your own space, which many people find makes the harder subjects easier to open.

What you say in session stays confidential between you and your clinician, with limits explained before you begin: a serious risk of harm to yourself or to someone else, a concern that a child needs protection, or a court order or subpoena for records. Practically, all you need is a door that closes and a stable internet connection — headphones help with both privacy and sound.

What hours can I book from Saskatoon?

Sessions run seven days a week from 12pm to 9pm Pacific, which is 1pm to 10pm in Saskatoon for most of the year. Saskatchewan famously doesn’t change its clocks — the province stays on Central Standard Time year-round — so when everyone else falls back in November, the window shifts to 2pm to 11pm Saskatoon time until spring.

Either way, the evening slots are real: an after-supper appointment is an ordinary booking here, not a favour. If you need to cancel, 24 hours’ notice means no charge; inside that window, or for a missed session, the full fee applies.

Does Saskatchewan Health cover counselling?

No — Saskatchewan’s provincial health coverage does not pay for private counselling or psychotherapy, so sessions at TEO Counselling are paid privately: $150 for a 60-minute individual session, $175 for a couples session.

Where the money often comes back is extended health benefits through work. Many plans reimburse counselling from a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) — the national designation Mohamad holds — but every plan lists its own eligible providers, so check the wording before booking, or ask us for a sample receipt to send your insurer first. If cost is the thing standing in the way, say so at the consultation; reduced-fee spots are held for exactly that.

Is online couples counselling as effective as meeting in person?

Online couples counselling follows the same structure as office-based work — the assessment, the mapping of your conflict cycle, the skills practised between sessions — and partners can join from the same couch or from two different locations, which makes it easier to keep appointments consistent. Whether the format suits the two of you is something to test on the free consultation.
