Questions people ask before reaching out

What is TEO Counselling?

TEO Counselling is a virtual-only counselling and psychotherapy practice based in Nanaimo, British Columbia. We provide individual and couples therapy by video to clients in British Columbia, Ontario, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Newfoundland & Labrador — in English and Arabic across all six provinces, and in Hindi and Malayalam for British Columbia clients. The first step is a free 15 minute consultation, and no referral is needed.

Is everything at TEO Counselling really online?

Yes — every session happens by video, and there is no physical office to travel to. Sessions run on the Jane platform, with Zoom or Google Meet as a backup, and you can join from home, or anywhere private, in any of the six provinces we serve. Being fully virtual means no commute and no waiting room — and cancellation is free with at least 24 hours’ notice if life gets in the way.

Who are the therapists at TEO Counselling?

TEO Counselling has three clinicians. Mohamad Shabib, MACP, CCC, a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with the CRPO in Ontario, works in English and Arabic with clients in all six provinces we serve. Rola Shbib, BSW (Hons), a Registered Social Worker in Ontario, also works in English and Arabic across those same six provinces, with particular depth in grief, crisis, and addictions. Alison Shaji, MA Clinical Psychology, a Registered Clinical Counsellor, works in English, Hindi, and Malayalam with clients in British Columbia.

What kinds of therapy does TEO Counselling offer?

Our clinicians hold training in EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), the Gottman Method for couples, CBT, DBT, and Emotionally Focused Family Therapy (EFFT) — matched to your goals rather than applied one-size-fits-all. We work with trauma and PTSD, couples and marriage counselling, grief and loss, anxiety, depression, addictions, and first responder trauma, among other concerns.

How do I get started with TEO Counselling?

Book a free 15 minute consultation online through our Jane booking page, or call (519) 760-5211 — no referral is needed. Sessions run seven days a week, 12:00pm to 9:00pm Pacific time, which lands at later local hours the further east you are; the full hours table is on our fees page. The consultation is where we decide together whether we’re the right fit. Therapy is not a crisis service — for urgent support call or text 9-8-8, or call 911 in an emergency.

More detail — the free consultation, EMDR and IFS, session length, confidentiality, insurance — is answered on the full FAQ page.
